Preterm Labor and Premature Birth | Shilpy Hospital

The terms premature and preterm both refer to being early. Preterm labour is defined as labour that starts earlier than 37 weeks into a pregnancy. Your body goes through labour to give birth to your child.

Premature birth can result from preterm labour. When your baby is born before 37 weeks of pregnancy, it is known as a premature birth. Before birth, your baby needs roughly 40 weeks to grow and develop in the womb.

What symptoms and indications are present in premature labour?

A condition's symptoms are something that another person can observe in you or learn about you from, such as a rash or a cough. According to Dr. Gaurav Khanna, symptoms are something you experience personally but others are unable to observe, such as having a sore throat or feeling lightheaded.

Call your doctor right away if you have even one of these preterm labour symptoms or signs:

Changes in your vaginal discharge, such as more than normal or discharge that is bloody, mucous, or watery

Persistent low, dull backache Pain in your pelvic or lower tummy, as though your baby is pushing down

stomach pains, either with or without diarrhoea

Prevention

Preterm labour may not be something you can stop, but there are many things you can do to encourage a healthy, full-term pregnancy. For instance:

Look for routine prenatal treatment. Your doctor can keep an eye on both your and your unborn child's health with the help of prenatal checkups. Describe any symptoms or indicators that worry you. You might need to visit your doctor more frequently throughout pregnancy if you have a history of premature labour or exhibit preterm labour signs or symptoms.

Adopt a balanced diet. Premature birth risk is reduced by consuming a diet rich in polyunsaturated fats (PUFAs). Nuts, seeds, fish, and seed oils contain PUFAs.

Eschew dangerous chemicals. If you smoke, try to stop as soon as possible. Drugs that are illegal are also prohibited. Dr. Shilpy Khanna gave an explanation of it.

Think of separating pregnancies. Premature births are thought to be more likely to occur when pregnancies are spaced less than six months apart, according to some study. Consider discussing the spacing of pregnancies with your doctor.
