FOODS TO EAT AND AVOID DURING PREGNANCY | SHILPY HOSPITAL

A nutritious diet is essential while pregnant. A person can fulfil the increased physical demands of pregnancy and support the development of the foetus by eating optimally.

Specialised carbohydrates

Starchy vegetables like sweet potatoes and butternut squash, healthful grains, and legumes like beans or chickpeas are all sources of complex carbs. When feasible, choose these over refined carbohydrates, which are found in white breads, pastas, and rice.

Veggies and fruits

Consume a lot of fruit and vegetables since they include fibre, which aids in digestion and avoids constipation, as well as vitamins and minerals. Consume a variety of fresh, frozen, canned, dry, or juiced fruits and vegetables every day.

Protein

Protein-rich foods promote the baby's growth. Meat (avoid liver), fish (avoid shark/flake, marlin, broadbill/swordfish, etc.), poultry, eggs, beans, legumes/beans, nuts, and fish are all good sources of protein. Consume protein on a daily basis. Choose lean meat, remove the skin off poultry, and use little fat while cooking it.

Restricted foods

Reduce your intake of when you're pregnant by:

Foods high in sugar, including soft drinks, ice cream, cake, puddings, biscuits, chocolate, and pastries. Sugar contributes to weight gain, obesity, and tooth damage since it provides only calories and no other nutrients.

Foods with a lot of fat, including cream, all spreading fats (including butter), oils, and salad dressings. Because fatty meals contain a lot of calories, eating more of them will probably result in weight gain.

An excessive amount of saturated fat can raise blood cholesterol levels, which raises the risk of heart disease. Reduce your intake of saturated fat and replace it with foods high in polyunsaturated or monounsaturated fat, like oils, spreads, nut butters/pastes, avocado, and spreads.
